Mexican Buñuelos

  • 2 1/4 cupsof flour
  • 1/20 cupof baking powder
  • 1/5 cupof sugar
  • 1/10 cupof Anisette
  • 1/2 cupof water
  • 1/4 cupof vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cupof eggs
  • 5 cupsof vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/10 cupof sugar


  1. Add the flour, baking powder and sugar to a mixing bowl. Next, add Anisette, a cup of water and vegetable shortening. Mix the ingredients very well. Add two eggs one by one. Mix the dough for about 5 minutes or until it is well combined. Transfer it to another bowl and let it rest for about 1 hour in the refrigerator.

  2. Now, divide the dough into small portions. Next, stretch the dough carefully. Try to stretch the dough as much as possible until it is translucent.

  3. Put on your pan in a high heat and fill with oil. Put the bunuelos into the oil when it is very hot. Fry them until they are golden brown. Then, put them on a paper towel. Finally, sprinkle bunuelos with a little bit of sugar.
